Email:#1 Bassy and Baldie- Hey there Scott &jeff & Maurice
Love the show for years now. I’m looking forward to here Maurice back on the show and i would like to ask you to give us,the listeners, an update on Maurice’s health.
I sure hope he’s doing fine because his story last time was very touching. It sure touched me because he was so open about it and about his darker periods. How did he cope to overcome?
Secondly i want to comment on your caller Steve with the idea on more local input and “eyeball” reports. I listen to your show on the other side of the planet with mostly “soupy” waves at best.
But wouldn’t you agree that your international listeners need something else?
Anyway , keep it up and say hi to Maurice from the Netherlands. Rgrds Rens
email #2: Bassy Baldy: Here we were on the East Coast of England, expecting the ’50 year storm’, and it turns out that record low ice levels in the Arctic have screwed up all the computer generated surf forecasting models that NOAA puts out; Wave Watch III — for most of Northern Europe. Gutted! Forecasting aside it makes you wonder how this pattern of warmer seas and retreating ice is going to affect things for all of us as Surfers in the years to come? http://magicseaweed.com/Sea-Ice-Forecast-Glitch-Content/3981/ Anyway, love the show, back to word of mouth and old school pressure charts it is then! Regards,Tris from York UK
FROM A SURF FORECASTING SITE: The main swell model we use all use, the NOAA NWW3, calculates swell generation on the northern boundary of its domain, based on the latest sea ice data obtained from satellite scans. The sudden and rapid change in ice concentration over the last few days revealed an area of ocean for which there exists a significant numerical issue in the mathematics responsible for calculating south bound swell. The results were a seemingly endless series of unfeasibly long period swells propagating south into Northern Europe and beyond. To clarify, it wasn’t that the model was forecasting these swells as likely, BECAUSE of the lack of ice, but that the lack of the ice exposed a bug or error in the system that hadn’t appeared in testing with a broad range of historic conditions.
email #3: Hey Bassy, Baldy,– Yeah Guy from Oz!
Whats the story behind Kelly dumping FCS this week? What will he be riding now?
Kind regards, BazMan PS. I’ve been doing rough head counts in the surf in Sydney and I reckon in regards to the stats you had on last weeks show down here the Men must make up about 96% of the surfers compared to the girls…

Hurley Pro STARTS TODAY!
can Kelly Slater’s dominance at Lowers put him back in contention for a 12th world title?
He’s owned the Lowers title for the past two years
he’s won the contest a total of five times since 2005.
He’s sitting fourth in the ratings behind Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson,
Slater looks to the cobblestone point to once again put him back on top.
Can’t count out high fliers: Wilson, Medina, Pupo, Kerr
Forecast; Chest-shoulder-head high surf will show later Tuesday afternoon through Friday morning at Lower Trestles, with larger sets running a foot-plus overhead and even a little bigger on the peak days Wednesday and into Thursday morning (also best consistency Wednesday and into early Thursday).”
